The protection of your privacy is important to us. Please note the following points of our privacy policy.
Scope
The privacy policy applies to all SwissLiterature websites. For third-party websites to which the SwissLiterature websites link, no guarantee is given for compliance with these privacy protection provisions.
Data protection
Based on Article 13 of the Swiss Federal Constitution, the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP) and the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), every person is entitled to protection of their privacy and protection against misuse of their personal data. SwissLiterature is in principle subject to Swiss law and complies with these provisions as far as applicable.
Personal data is treated as strictly confidential and is not sold to third parties. In close cooperation with our hosting providers, we strive to protect the databases as well as possible against unauthorised access, loss, misuse or falsification.

The SwissLiterature Association is responsible for data processing. All data protection concerns can be directed to us at the following address:

What personal data do we process?
– We process personal data that is necessary to carry out our activities and operations in a sustainable, user-friendly, secure and reliable manner. Such personal data may in particular fall into the categories of general personal data, financial data, location data or privacy data.
– We process data that is automatically collected when you use our website. This is primarily technical data that cannot be linked to your identity (e.g. statistical information on the number of users of our online services) – and therefore not personal data. If it is possible to draw conclusions about your identity from this technical data, this is not our aim: the automatically collected data is only used to analyse and improve our websites.
– We process data that you provide to us when you use our services. We only collect personal data that is related to our relationship with you. The data you provide includes, in particular, your contact details such as name, telephone number, address or email address, bank details and other details, especially in connection with the following services:
When you ...
… apply for membership with us;
… communicate directly with us;
… take part in a survey;
… provide us with your personal data for any other reason.
In all cases, we process your personal data exclusively for the purpose that is specific and recognisable to you in each case.
We may also obtain personal data about you from publicly available registers, websites or platforms or by obtaining information from your organisation or from other organisations or companies. This includes personal data that you have made publicly available or that we receive in correspondence or meetings with the organisations concerned.
Do we share your personal information?
In principle, it is possible to use our websites without providing personal data. If personal data (e.g. surname, first name, telephone number, address or e-mail address) is collected on our pages, this is always done, as far as possible, on a voluntary basis. As a matter of principle, we will only pass on your personal data to other third parties in order to improve our services if we are legally obliged to do so or if you have given us your consent to do so, for example when you apply for membership. Further information on this can be found in the respective application forms.
We would like to point out that despite all the measures we have taken, data transmission on the internet (e.g. when communicating by e-mail) can have security gaps and therefore complete protection of data against access by third parties cannot be guaranteed in every case.
Data transfer abroad
As a matter of principle, we do not pass on data to third parties. Exceptions to this are our IT providers (in Switzerland and the EU), Rocket Science Group and Google, who support us regarding the functioning of our websites and the analysis and improvement of our services.
It is also exceptionally possible that we are obliged by legal regulations or a judicial decision to pass on certain data.
It is possible that the transfer of data to third parties may require the transfer of data abroad. This only happens when using the services of Google, Matomo and MailChimp, where the data is stored and analysed in the USA. We contractually ensure that the applicable legal data protection is guaranteed.
Basis and duration of data processing
We only process user data either with the user's consent, which can be revoked at any time (e.g. by providing the data), or if we have a legitimate interest in processing the data (e.g. to improve our services or to comply with legal requirements).
We only process user data for as long as required in terms of processing purposes, legal retention periods and our legitimate interests for documentation and evidence purposes or for as long as storage is technically necessary.

Newsletter via Mailchimp
You can view the privacy policy of the newsletter service provider here. Rocket Science Group LLC d/b/a MailChimp is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and thereby offers a guarantee of compliance with the European level of data protection (read more here).
The newsletter service provider may use the recipients' data in pseudonymous form, i.e. without assigning it to a user, to optimise or improve its own services, e.g. to technically optimise the dispatch and presentation of the newsletter or for statistical purposes. However, the newsletter service provider does not use the data of our newsletter recipients to contact them itself, nor does it pass the data on to third parties.
Newsletter performance assessment
The newsletters contain a so-called “web beacon”, i.e. a pixel-sized file that is retrieved from our server when the newsletter is opened, or if we use a newsletter service provider, from their server. Within the scope of this retrieval, technical information such as information on the browser and your system as well as your IP address and the time of the retrieval are initially collected. This information is used for the technical improvement of the services based on the technical data or the target groups and their reading behaviour based on their retrieval locations (which can be determined with the help of the IP address) or the access times. Statistical surveys also include determining whether newsletters are opened, when they are opened and which links are clicked. For technical reasons, this information can be assigned to the individual newsletter recipients. However, it is neither our intention nor, if used, that of the newsletter service provider to observe individual users. Instead, the analyses serve to recognise the reading habits of our users and to adapt our content to them or to send different content according to the interests of our users.
